Maybe you got a whole play set for Christmas one year. Maybe you just used it in grade school. Maybe you were even adventurous and made your own at home. But you get one whiff of that salty, doughy stuff and you know it right away.
It's the smell of Play-Doh.
Today is National Play-Doh Day. Did you know...Play-Doh was originally created to be a wallpaper cleaner? Yup. And it almost didn't make it as a company - until a partnership was struck with Captain Kangaroo. The colorful concoction was featured weekly on the show, and in return the Captain Kangaroo production company was given 2% of the sales generated. That's a lot of dough! (HA HA HA HA....I kill myself sometimes). In the end, Play-Doh became overwhelmingly popular and inspirational that it was inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame in 1998.
All of this is great information...but let's be honest...we're here to play with it.
Having limited creative talent in the world of sculpture, I recruited my fellow co-workers to help me celebrate National Play-Doh Day...because...who doesn't enjoy playing at work?

Now at this point I should have declared a winner. But I can't. While you're at it, stop by the store on the way home...grab some Play-Doh of your own. Challenge your kids...your husband (Nick, I'm lookin' at you)...your friends. Have a little bit of fun on an otherwise whatever Wednesday. One whiff and you'll be back in small chairs at round tables again.
National Play-Doh Day...not only a time to celebrate a great toy from our youth...but a chance to put aside being an adult for a while and celebrate our youth with a toy.
